Refreshing archival material

This blog had long been relegated to the category of missing and, perhaps, forgotten. After looking at the pictures, I decided I might be worth giving the whole thing a new look. With that in mind, here goes...

Okanagan Trip 05-08-13 (Day 03)

Day 01 ----- Day 02 ----- Day 03

The trip home takes us from Naramata to Peachland, and then, via the Coquihalla Highway to Merritt, and on through this arid landscape...

--> ============================== ==============================

A few kilometers east of Spence's Bridge we come across "Nine Mile Gardens" (could it be 9 miles?!); we stop to pick whatever is ripe.

Lilo: "Let's get started!"

Hanne, is that a good one?

Back-breaking labor...

Not too bad if you know you've only got to do this for about 10 minutes...

Lilo's harvest: not bad for about 10 minutes of picking.

It takes plenty of water and human perspiration to turn this country into a farm.

Green leafy vegetables and red, ripe tomatoes on one side of the road (irrigation); desert on the other.

GOOD FOOD? Here, in the middle of nowhere?

South of Spence's Bridge: can you spell D-R-Y? H-O-T?

--> ============================== ==============================

Skunked again: There's nothing worth buying at this fruitstand.

Above the Thompson River and the rail line: fire.

We're on the Fraser Canyon highway now. Here, north of Lytton, we look down onto the Thompson River.

--> ============================== ==============================

South of Spence's Bridge, the air is thick with forest fire smoke.

Just south of Spence's Bridge and across the Thompson River: FOREST FIRE!

This is a terrible picture, but... commercial interests have made it all but impossible to enjoy Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon without $$$ (tram)

Last picture of the trip. Opa has figured out the Hell's Gate scam: to use a toilet, you have to by a ticket for the tram.
